IN PLAIN TERMS
- The app collects no personal information and has no account or login.
- The only thing it stores — your chosen street — stays on your device, never sent anywhere.
- There are no analytics, ad, or tracking services of any kind.
- A few buttons open outside links (the town’s website, tip links) in your browser — those sites have their own policies.
What this app is
Brattleboro Garbage Day is a free utility app that tells residents of Brattleboro, Vermont when their next trash, recycling, and compost pickup is, based on the street they select. It is an independent project and is not affiliated with, operated by, or endorsed by the Town of Brattleboro.
Information we collect
We collect none. The app has no sign-up, no account, and no network calls to any server we operate — there is no backend, because none is needed. The app’s only stored data is the street name you pick from the built-in list, saved locally using standard on-device storage. It is never transmitted, synced, backed up to a server, or made visible to us or to anyone else.
If you add the home screen widget, it reads that same locally stored street to show your countdown — the widget does not add any new data collection.
Third-party services
The app does not integrate any advertising network, analytics SDK, crash reporter, or other third-party data-collection service. The table below covers everything in the app that leaves the app itself.
| WHERE IN THE APP | WHAT HAPPENS |
|---|---|
| “Official town information” link | Opens brattleboro.gov in your browser |
| “Made by @balianh.bsky.social” link | Opens the developer’s Bluesky profile in your browser |
| Tip jar (PayPal / Venmo on Android) | Opens paypal.com or venmo.com in your browser, only if you tap it |
Each of those is a normal outbound link you choose to tap — the app does not pass your street, your device identifiers, or anything else to those sites. Once you’re there, that site’s own privacy policy applies, not this one.
Data sharing and sale
There is nothing to share or sell, since nothing is collected in the first place. We do not have a server, a database of users, or any mechanism to receive data from the app.
Your choices
You can change or clear your selected street at any time from within the app. Uninstalling the app removes its locally stored data, including your selected street, along with everything else Android keeps for the app.
Children’s privacy
This app is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children. Since it collects no personal information from any user, it does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes — for example, if a future version of the app adds a feature that does collect data — this page will be updated and the effective date above will change accordingly.
Contact
Questions about this policy or the app can be sent via Bluesky to @balianh.bsky.social.
